(WRN) -The state's Legislative Black Caucus will be leading rallies and events throughout February as part of Black History Month.February is Black History Month and the members of the state's Legislative Black Caucus are ready to lead a month's worth of events and rallies. Milwaukee representative David Crowley says that much has to be done to bring two sides of the racial divide back together.
"We need to bridge these divides, and we need to do it together. We need to build bridges and it won't be easy."
Crowley says Black history is Wisconsin History, even if some people don't see it that way.
"Whether it's through legal or social mechanisms, our community has been continuously negatively impacted. This has installed a belief that our success failure didn't matter to the wider world."
Crowley says more needs to be done to help the state reach out to black Wisconsinites.
"At the same time, our community has withdrawn into itself. It's understandable, but it only furthers the divide between us and the rest of Wisconsin."
The events include discussions on health and education, criminal justice, and connecting with black veterans.
