Neillsville School Board Selects Lots for Spring Election
Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 -- 10:21 AM
-The Neillsville School Board began their meeting on Monday by drawing the lots for the spring election. For the three candidates running, newcomer Paul Opelt will be first on the ballot followed by incumbents Deanna Heiman and then Jake Brunette. The board also approved the 2020-2021 calendar for the next school year. They also wanted to mention that February 14th of this year will now be a regular school for students and staff. The board also approved the in house and online handbooks with some modifications and they approved several donations including a donation of personal care items to the health office from the girl scouts, $100 from Tricore Insurance and $8,334 from the Booster Club, which will pay for half of the new weight equipment at the district. The board also approved the Virtual Academy Contract for the next school year.
This will be the second year they’ve used the Virtual Academy. They haven’t had any issue with it and they have 10 students who use it with 3 or 4 that use it full time. Finally, the board approved putting caps on open enrollment for special education. This is the first time the district has had to do this, but it’s necessary as they don’t want to stress their teachers and resources with too many students. By putting on these caps, the district can deny accepting a special ed student as long as they don’t already have a sibling at the district.
