City of Marshfield Looking at Space Needs for the Street Department

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020 -- 8:40 AM

(Hub City Times) -The city of Marshfield is looking at space needs for the street department.

Public Works Director Dan Knoeck told Marshfield’s Board of Public Works last night that his department began working in December with Milwaukee-based Barrientos Design and Consulting on what needs exist at the city garage at Second Street and Spruce Avenue. Knoeck said the design company will now be looking at upgrading the existing site versus estimates for a new location. The current street department is located on a six-acre yard, consisting of the main garage building, four bulk storage facilities, a fueling station, outdoor storage space, and parking.

An initial assessment indicates the current facilities are too small to accommodate all the necessary functions as not all of the trucks can be parked indoors; there is no vehicle-lifting equipment; locker and lunch rooms are ADA-inaccessible; and parts storage is deemed inadequate. Barrientos says it will develop up to four layout designs over the course of the next four to five months, at a cost of $26,000. The current city garage operations have been at their existing location since 1943.
