-The Loyal School Board heard updates from the district’s Building and Grounds Committee at their meeting last week. There are many needed maintenance and facility enhancement projects and, just like a household, the Wish List often exceeds the finances available. The board advised the administration to study the budget at this ½-way point of the year then proceed as money is available for several projects including a handicap automated lift for the elementary entrance, which would eliminate the present concrete ramp outside; replacing heater/AC units in the Jr. High, high school math and 3 elementary classrooms; gym floor resurfacing for the small gym and a re-coat for the HS gym; hallway and door signage throughout the building; replacing the outside door for the weight room; and a possible addition to the display area in the HS lobby.
Also, the west parking lot and turn-around and fencing replacement plans are on hold for now but cannot be ignored for long. Costs and financing involved with any size athletic field construction ideas on the west side of their buildings need to be decided before moving on those two items.
