Friday, January 17th, 2020 -- 12:12 PM
-The Granton Village Board discussed appointing engineers for the village at their meeting on Wednesday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board discussed pros and cons of the Engineering Teams. The board approved using Cooper Engineering for future projects. The board also heard a recap of the Water Report. 4th Quarter Utility readings were completed, the PSC report for the audit has been started, they plowed snow, they took down Christmas decorations and they picked up Christmas trees. The board also heard the Sewer Report Recap. They plowed snow and cleared sidewalks, they worked on Phosphorous Reports for the DNR and completed the monthly report, they sold water to Intercon so they could install a holding tank, they shut off water at Drinsingers and Dolle’s vacant properties, they changed a 2” check valve in well 5, they installed a couple of new meters and they continue to work on dump truck maintenance. They also plugged the aerator in in Pond 1 and that will be looked into further this spring as the other 4 aerators are still working so there is no rush to get it fixed. The board also held the caucus for the April election. They have one member running for re-election.
Finally, during the open forum of the meeting, they had a discussion on the park. The money taken in from the park concession stand is not able to cover the expenses the village incurs each year. The Park and Rec Team consists of several dedicated volunteers who handle everything from tournament set up, referee scheduling, ordering all the food and beverages, and work the concession stand. Wet weather and dwindling population has reduced the concession income. The board discussed several options to increase interest at the park to include, advertising tournaments and leagues, looking into menu options that provide higher profits, renting out the ball field and more. Options will continue to be discussed as spring arrives.
