Owen-Withee School Board Finalizes FEMA Grant
Friday, January 17th, 2020 -- 8:30 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board heard the FEMA Grant update at their meeting on Monday. The board reviewed the revisions made at the January 6th Special Meeting and finalized the plans for the FEMA Grant. The building cost estimate is $3.7 million dollars with a FEMA grant of $1.9 million, or 51%. The district’s portion of this would be $1.8 million, or 49%. If, and only if, the district is awarded the FEMA grant will it go to referendum in November. If the district does not receive the grant, the board has no plans to continue with the project. The board also struggled to firm up plans traveling to the convention next week in Milwaukee. They will use e-mail and texting to get a departure time on January 22. In election news, board members Charlie Milliren and Dean Schmelzer have both filed paperwork to run for re-election in April.
No other candidates filed the necessary paperwork, so there is no need for a primary. Charlie and Dean will run unopposed in April. Finally, Middle/High School Dean of Student Julie Van Ark and Mrs. Boie presented to the board a change they would like to implement in the 2020-21 school year. The change involves offering P.E. to students in sections of students in grades 9-12 with sections of “competitive” and “non-competitive” P.E. The board unanimously approved this change for next year.
