Friday, January 3rd, 2020 -- 10:58 AM
Community Boxing Club in Neillsville is proudly hosting the 2020 Wisconsin State Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament, today and Sunday at the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.Dale Berger of Community Boxing expects 5 boxers from the Community Boxing Club that will participate. Brooklyn and Nia Schoen, Tremmel Myers, and Easton and Ashton Schultz. He has some good experience coming into the tournament with his boxers.
If you win at the State Silver Gloves you move on to Regionals January 18th and 19th in Hinkley, MN. From there it's on to Nationals in Kansas City the first week in February. Ashton Schultz has made it to Nationals the last two years.
The bouts at the State Silver Gloves will have three 1 minute rounds which makes it a faster pace match. Berger said his boxers will have to adjust their styles to accomodate the shorter time period in the ring.
Berger said the competition should be good with two really good boxing clubs from Keshena and Milwaukee participating in Neillsville and Dale said it will be a tough match if they go against them.
The 2020 Wisconsin State Silver Gloves will have matches starting at around 6 pm this Saturday night and around noon this Sunday at the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.
Ringside seats $20. Regular Admission $15. Student Admission $5. 5 and under free
