The Loyal school district has reached a settlement with a former administrator. David Miskulin was fired in 2002 after he pleaded guilty to charges he defrauded banks in Spencer and Loyal by exaggerating the value of coins that he offered as collateral. He was sentenced in federal court to 18-months in prison. While he offered a letter resignation, the school board chose instead to fire him. Miskulin sued claiming the school didn?t pay him certain retirement benefits he had earned before his firing. This month, the board approved a $30,000 settlement instead of risking Miskulin could win a civil suit worth over $77,000.
