State Lawmakers Pressing Ahead with Bill to License New Type of Dental Provider

(WRN) -Lawmakers are pressing ahead with a bill to license a new type of dental provider in Wisconsin.They're called dental therapists, and would work under the supervision of dentists to provide services including filling cavities, placing temporary crowns and extracting diseased or loose teeth. The bill received a hearing Wednesday before an Assembly committee.
It's a response to a real need: providing dental care for lower income residents who often lack dental insurance or are in the Medicaid program which dentists say doesn’t pay enough to cover their costs.
