(WDLB) -The two-year university campus in Marshfield was evacuated late yesterday afternoon, after students mistakenly identified a glove as a handgun, and called police.Just before 5 p-m, Marshfield police received a report of a man with a gun on the UWSP at Marshfield campus. The campus was then evacuated, after two students reported seeing a disoriented man, with what appeared to be a handgun in his jacket pocket. The man was wearing a green stocking cap and appeared lost, looking for a staircase. Officers from Marshfield, Wood County and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in evacuating, clearing, and searching the campus for the man.
A subsequent investigation revealed the man was there to do get some exercise, since the campus is open to walkers during cold weather. The suspect was later identified as a local man who was walking the building, got lost, and asked two students for directions out of the building. Police have confirmed that the subject did not have a weapon on campus, although he did have gloves protruding from his jacket pocket.
