Senator Baldwin Proposes Smaller Number for National Suicide Prevention Hotline

Friday, December 13th, 2019 -- 12:53 PM

(WRN) -People needing mental health help, or just someone to talk to, could soon have a much easier number to call.

Senator Tammy Baldwin says her plan to change the National Suicide Prevention Hotline number to 9-8-8 took a step forward in the U-S Senate Wednesday. Baldwin says changing the 1-800 number to 9-8-8 will make it easier for people in crisis to remember.

She says about 45-thousand people kill themselves each year, including about six thousand military veterans.
