Friday, December 6th, 2019 -- 9:14 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -After seeing its second increase of the year during September, Wisconsin's total cheese production went back down in October when compared to the same month during 2018.

The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 285.3 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was 7.5 percent less than a year earlier, but 1.1 percent higher than this past September, which had less days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.13 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in October.

That was 2.1 percent lower than 2018, but 4.6 percent more than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 23.7 million pounds, which was up 2.9 percent from last year, but 2.4 percent less compared to last month.
