A New Feature Coming to Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area

Thursday, December 5th, 2019 -- 10:35 AM

-With our recent snowfall, it may have some thinking of downhill skiing and tubing. Thankfully, Clark County has just the place for Winter fun.

I spoke with Marcus Auman, and he explained all the awesome thing at Bruce Mound Winter Sports area.

Marcus: “Bruce Mound, great local facility here. We have 5 tubing runs that are available to all ages. We also have 10 different runs ranging from beginner to advanced ability. And those 10 different runs are serviced by 5 different lifts, two t-bars, a chair lift, a rope tow and a handle tow.”

Riley: “And of course, Bruce Mound has that really nice Chalet building, correct?”

“Yep, and the Chalet consists of a short order menu, great food and a nice warm place with free wifi for guests to come in and warm up from the outside cold or for parents to hang out, wait for their kids to come in and quit enjoying the weather.”

There’s a new feature out at Bruce Mound on the tubing hill.

Marcus: “Really exciting stuff! So, we’ve got some colored LED lighting now that’s going to cover our tubing runs. So, our night tubing, primarily on Friday nights, is going to be lit up with colored lights. There’s also speakers that cover the hill too as well, so you can listen to your favorite tunes when you’re out on the hill.”

Marcus said adding that feature wasn’t too complicated.

Marcus: “We had to do some rewiring and changing things up a little bit, but it wasn’t too complicated of a switch to make and, I think, it’s one the guests are really going to enjoy and it’s really going to add to the night experience of tubing.”

Marcus also talked about an upcoming event at Bruce Mound, Hope on the Hill.

Marcus: “Hope on the Hill came together with our department and Community Services. Hope on the Hill is set to benefit all the local individuals here in the area that need a little help during the holidays. During that event on December 20th, we’re going to be accepting lightly used or new coats, unwrapped gifts and also food donations to give to the local people. By showing up and bringing those items with you, you’re going to get free access to the hill.”

Riley: “Of course, this is a very good time of year to do that in order to help those that may need and an opportunity for people looking for something to donate too this holiday season.”

Marcus: “Correct, it’s great for both of those. We want to do everything we can to give back to the community in every way we can. Free access to the hill and getting the giving spirit in your soul, this is a great way to do that.”

They’re hoping to have Bruce Mound open on the 14th of this month.

Marcus: “Bruce Mound is tentatively open, at this point, on December 14th. We’re hopeful that maybe we could do something before that, but we are planning to be open and, hopefully, fully open by December 14th.

Riley: “And some people may not realize it, but you guys are already making snow out there.”

Marcus: “Correct, we fired up the earliest ever this year, when we had that nice cold snap two weeks ago. We’ve gone a little bit dormant since the, because the weather hasn’t cooperated, but we do have a great start and that’s why we’re hopeful we’ll be open by the 14th.”

Riley: “And I think it’s good to remind people that just because they may not have snow in their backyard, doesn’t mean there isn’t snow at Bruce Mound. Because, as we said, you’ve been making it since November.”

Marcus: “Yep, we definitely have a good start to having the hill completed covered. I’d say it’s about 80% covered, but, yes, just because it isn’t in your backyard doesn’t mean we don’t have it down there.”

Finally, Marcus ended out interview by reminding people where they can go to learn more about Bruce Mound Winter Sports area.

Marcus: “Bruce Mound, any information that we have, you can check out on the county’s website. Just navigate there to Clark County’s website and you can find us under the Clark County Forestry and Parks Department. It’s a great page to get information on whether you're looking for lessons and how much that costs, lift tickets, season pass fees, rentals, all that information can be found right there on the website. You can also purchase passes for rentals on line too as well ahead of time. Feel free to check out that reservations website on our recreation software online and purchase stuff ahead of time.”

Again, Bruce Mound’s tentative opening date is December 14th.
