With Successful Conservation of Wolves, Problems Grow

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 -- 7:39 AM

(WRN) -With an estimated 900 gray wolves protected by the Endangered Species Act, problems are growing.

The conservation success story has created a major nuisance for hunters, farmers and pet owners in northern parts of the state. The law makes it illegal to hunt or harm species on the list. Taxpayers are being hurt as well.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has paid out more than two-and-a-half million dollars to cover damages caused by the wolves. The U-S Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed lifting the protections for the wolves this year.
