A Donation and More at Owen City Council Meeting

-The Owen City Council approved a donation to the House of Friends at their meeting last week.The council approved the annual $3,000 donation to the House of Friends After School Program and the heard the Treasurer’s Report. They council also heard some information on condemned properties. CDC Director Tim Swiggum provided a procedure list to the council showing the steps that need to be taken to carry out a Raze Order on condemned properties. The letter will be going out to the property owners allowing them 30 days to tear down their buildings. The council also heard the Public Works Report and they heard the Police Report. The Owen-Withee Police Chief explained the squad repair bill questioned earlier in the meeting, he served two warrants last month, an officer attended drug training and the chief attended a grant writing training in Green Bay. The council also heard the Parks and Rec Report.
They heard an overview of the project Parks and Rec has discussed and is working on. The new shower/bathroom will not be completed this Fall but will be first thing in Sping. Discussion and recommendations will be forthcoming regarding the charges for renting the Millpond buildings and concession stand as well as camping fees at Crowley Park. Finally, the council heard an update on the municipal building. It was reported that WE Energies is willing to sell their former building to the city for the appraised value of $69,000 roughly. The committee intends to continue looking at other options for now. Brian Chapman from Cedar Corp. said that he will have his grant writers look into it for them.
