(WRN) -A judge's ruling in South Dakota could have a bearing on Wisconsin.A U-S District judge's injunction has put a temporary halt to South Dakota's new riot booster law aimed at Keystone XL pipeline protesters. An ACLU lawsuit against South Dakota's governor and attorney general alleged the laws which allow the state to sue "riot boosters" including on behalf of a third party, were unconstitutional.
Here in Wisconsin, proposed legislation expands on a 2015 law by making it a felony to trespass or damage oil and gas pipelines. Supporters say that's needed to discourage unlawful activity. Opponents say it would have a chilling effect on free speech.
