Wisconsin Veteran Using Podcast to Help Other Veterans

(WRN) -A Wisconsin veteran is using his voice to help spread a message to other veterans that they are not alone.Ben Killoy is the creator and host of "Military Veteran Dad," a podcast that focuses on helping veteran fathers heal and be more present at home after they return from duty. Killoy tells WKOW-TV THAT most veterans struggle with being vulnerable once they return home.
"A lot of dads come home, but they don't come home because they leave their ego on, and your ego is the one thing that will put a barrier between you and your family."
Killoy says his podcast "Military Veteran Dad" focuses on helping veteran fathers heal and be more present at home.
"Prior to the podcast, I spent up to almost two years just trying to do something. So for me to come home, it was about feeling connected and having a community of people to do life with."
When Killoy returned home after serving as a Marine from 2003 to 2007 in Japan, he struggled making friends and feeling like he was a part of a bigger community. Now he spends his time recruiting the “everyday dad,” to tell their stories and possibly help another veteran dad who might be hurting.
