CORONER ACCUSED OF STEALING DRUGS FROM DEAD PEOPLE RESIGNS

The Rock County coroner resigned Thursday as part of a plea agreement on criminal charges against her.60-year-old Karen Gilbertson pleaded no contest to felony misconduct in court Thursday afternoon.
Gilbertson was charged after allegedly stealing drugs from dead people.
Under the plea agreement, Gilbertson would not serve prison time, but 18 months of probation. She had been charged with delivery and possession of drugs and theft from a corpse. Those charges were dropped. Gilbertson sent a letter of resignation to the sheriff Thursday. The governor is expected to appoint a new coroner.
Gilbertson will be sentenced following a pre-sentence investigation.
