STATE DAIRY HERD COUNTY DOWN

The Dairy State has lost another 29 dairy herds during the past month, but Clark County?s prowess as ?the? Dairy County remains strong. According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture?s latest dairy herd count numbers, there were 15,213 herds milking during the month of March. That?s about 487 less than last year. Clark County continues to hold the highest number of herds in the state with 1,021. Wisconsin's milk cow inventory, at 1.24 million head, declined 10,000 head from January 1, 2004.
