(WRN) -Governor Tony Evers is moving on with plans to find a new nominee to be the state's secretary of agriculture.Evers maintains that former designee Brad Pfaff should have been confirmed.
"Certainly there was no reason for them not to, but they took the, frankly I would say, amoral approach and decided that politics are going to trump competence and passion."
Evers former pick of Brad Pfaff, following a contentious exchange earlier this year over funding for suicide prevention for farmers, was fired earlier this week. Evers says staff in the department will carry on without Pfaff.
"Their work is so connected with the values and the legacies of Wisconsin, whether it's around water or whether it's around land, whether it's one of our obviously major industries."
Former ag secretary Randy Romanksi has been selected to head the department on a temporary basis while Evers can find a new nominee.
