Senator Baldwin Tries to Preserve the Affordable Care Act

Thursday, October 31st, 2019 -- 11:44 AM

(WRN) -Senator Tammy Baldwin led Democrats on a vote to preserve parts of the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday.

On the floor of the Senate, Baldwin said that meddling from the current administration has cut funding for Marketplace navigators by over 80 percent.

"We need to keep up the funding for Navigator Programs so that more people can find an affordable health care plan that meets their needs."

Baldwin called for a vote that would stop the spread of so called junk health care plans that don’t provide protection for preexisting conditions, and also called for a restoration of funding for marketplace navigators.

"Unfortunately, since President Trump took office, his administration has slashed federal funding for the navigator program by 84 percent."

Speaking from the floor of the Senate, Baldwin called out the current Administration for allowing low quality health insurance plans onto the market.

"This administration is encouraging Americans to buy junk plans that don't provide health coverage that you need, and can deny coverage to people who have a preexisting health condition."

Both measures were voted down by the Republican majority in the Senate.
