MARSHFIELD MOVES ON AFTER FIRE
Monday, April 4th, 2005 -- 11:48 AM
It?s been a few days since one of the most damaging fires in the city?s recent memory, but Marshfield residents are moving on.The blaze began shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday morning and caused extensive damage to the Magic Moments and Highstreet Beauty Salon and Tanning Studio buildings on Central Avenue.
Barb Fleisner of the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry says this was the most devastating downtown fire she can remember, but at least one of the business owners is interested in moving on.
"I talked to the property owner of Highstreet. He's hopeful he can get back in there," Fleisner said, "In regard to Magic Moments, I was told the building was a total loss."
Aside from the economic impact, 10 upstairs renters were also displaced because of the fire. Fleisner was impressed with how the community came together on Friday.
"It's been overwhelming. Our phone has been ringing steady with people just wanting to know how they could help," Fleisner said. She added local grocery stores donated food for the displaced renters.
Fleisner said the fire and police departments, EMS and American Red Cross personnel did an excellent job in responding to the incident on Friday.
