(WRN) -The writing process for the Agriculture Appropriations Bill is now underway in the Senate, and Senator Tammy Baldwin is looking to help bring more assistance to small farmers in Wisconsin.Among her proposals for the bill is the Farmers First Act which would provide more help for mental health screenings.
"So the Farmers First Act supports local mental health resources and expands access to stress reduction strategies for people who work in agriculture."
Baldwin says she'd like to see a greater expansion of funding for dairy innovation projects, like the one started at UW-Madison. The bill would expand investments and microloans for farms.
"It may mean a new cheese. It may mean bringing a processing function to a dairy farm that right now just sells its milk."
Baldwin hopes the bill will bring more assistance to small farmers in Wisconsin.
