Marshfield Student Takes Third MSOE's Electrical National Open Competition

(Hub City Times) -Milwaukee School of Engineering students walked away with four trophies at the Associated Schools of Construction Region 3 Conference and Student Competitions in October.Don Duong from Marshfield took third place with MSOE’s Electrical National Open Competition team. Duong is majoring in construction management at MSOE. Twelve companies sponsored the four-day event, in which students from 20 universities vied for titles in a variety of competitions. New this year at the ASC Region 3 event, a joint team of students from Technological University at Dublin and MSOE competed in the Preconstruction Services National Open Competition. The team was co-coached by Dr. Lloyd Scott of TUD and Dr. Blake Wentz of MSOE. For each competition the teams receive a request for proposal for a real project at 7 a.m. and have 16 hours to turn in their proposal at 11 p.m. The following morning they present their solution to a panel of judges, which usually includes individuals who were involved in the actual project.
Don Duong, and his electrical team took third place the national competition. The team of students served as the electrical contractor for a project at an airport where they were responsible for underground concrete encased ductbank systems for high and low voltage power distribution as well as communications, aircraft rated manholes, high and low voltage wiring and terminations and more, along with installation of a state of the art in-pavement light control system to aide in air traffic movement. Duong served as captain, along with Mitchell Fuller, Nate Mason, Jaclyn McNulty, Justin Meseberg, Robin Yoon, and their coach Christine Brotz.
