-A Melrose man charged in Jackson County Court for the death of his infant daughter had the charges against him dismissed. On September 4th, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a woman stating she found her infant daughter deceased. In a horrific scene, the infant was found dead, upside down with blood on her face in a swing. Investigators believe the child was face down for several hours. According to authorities, the infant’s father, Armas Cravins II, admitted to leaving the infant home alone with three other children while their mother was at work. He said he left a second time and took the infant with, but didn’t secure the child properly in the vehicle. His other children were left sleeping in their rooms with a dog leash holding the door shut. The mother said she didn’t check on the infant when she returned home, because Cravins said she was asleep.
Authorities said Cravins gave several different versions of the story and even blamed the family dog at one point. Cravins was being charged with 2nd degree reckless homicide and four counts of neglecting a child, each one with a different modifying factor attached. However, after receiving the autopsy report of the infant and it being submitted to the courts, the prosecutor had the charges against Cravins dismissed last week.
