Wisconsin Supreme Court to Hear Legal Challenge to Governor's Veto Power

(WRN) -The Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear a legal challenge brought by a conservative firm that wants to rein in the governor's veto authority. The suit, filed over the summer by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty on behalf of three taxpayers, requests that the court determine whether the governor may veto portions of a budget bill that are “essential, integral, and interdependent parts of those which were approved.” WILL wants justices to nullify four budget vetoes made by Governor Tony Evers.
The court decided Wednesday to take the case directly, rather than making WILL go through the lower courts first, a decision praised by WILL President and General Counsel Rick Esenberg.
