Monday, October 14th, 2019 -- 10:44 AM
-The Granton Village Board heard from a resident during the open forum portion of their meeting on Wednesday of last week.According to the unofficial minutes form the meeting, a resident advised there will be a Veterans Day celebration at the school on Nov 11th at 8:30. He also encouraged the village to participate in the FEMA program so he could buy flood insurance. A resident told him to ask if the village would look into programs to help support new businesses in town such as paying for taxes for a set period of time. He also advised that the resident also wanted to know if the village would consider lowering taxes. He also stated this resident wanted to be sure the meeting minutes were recorded properly as he previously addressed the board and he was not mentioned in the minutes. The board noted the request to support new businesses.
The village does not have the power to lower his taxes but advised if this resident feels the property values have not been assessed properly he should contact the assessor. September minutes were presented to the board Wednesday and will be amended to make note of the resident’s comments to the board. The clerk put together Mill Rate comparisons in Clark County as well as tax copies and Levy Limit information so resident has factual information regarding village tax rates which are consistently lower than comparable municipalities. Resident will be contacted and advised the information is available.
