Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 -- 7:41 AM
(WRN) -Governor Tony Evers has signed an executive order declaring the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Wisconsin. That's the day otherwise known as Columbus Day, a federal holiday although not a state holiday here. Evers' executive order states that Native Americans in Wisconsin and throughout the country have suffered unjust treatment-often at the hands of the government-and the day is about recognizing that Wisconsin would not be all that it is without Indigenous people.
The governor signed Tuesday at the Indian Community School in suburban Milwaukee.
