Tar Sands Storytelling Project Returns to CART Center

Tuesday, October 8th, 2019 -- 9:17 AM

-The Tar Sands Storytelling Project returns to Neillsville for a second time to offer an opportunity to those who did not see the first showing.

The exhibit is comprised of ten, 2ft x 4ft panels of artwork completed by ten different artists from across the state. Each piece illustrates an aspect of the often unknown oil pipeline which pumps over 1.2 million barrels of tar sands oil through Wisconsin (and Clark County) each day. The result is a diverse, powerful, and nuanced look at the oil pipeline story which affects each and every Wisconsinite. The exhibit first opened at the Clark Cultural Art Center in Neillsville on April 26th, 2019 and was followed by a tour along the Wisconsin pipeline route. To date, the project has reached approximately 1,500 people and continues to show across the Midwest.

The exhibit will be back at the CART Center this Sunday, October 13th from 11am-4pm. The story of pipelines in Wisconsin is not a stagnant one. The company in ownership of operating line 61 is looking to expand the oil flow by adding a second line in addition to the current Line 61. This “twin line” would increase capacity to 2.4 million barrels of oil through Indigenous lands, Wisconsin farmlands, and private properties each day. This project highlights a shared history, reality and future when it comes to fossil fuel infrastructure.
