Owen City Council Hears Police Commission Report

-The Owen City Council heard the Police Commission Report at their meeting last week.The budget was discussed, along with the probability of a part-time officer. The officers were thanked for their assistance on EMS and Fire calls. The 1-year review of the Chief and the 3-month review of an Officer was postponed until next meeting due to time. The council also approved a resolution appointing a city representative and an alternate to the O-W Fire Meetings. Finally, the council heard the Community Development Authority’s Report. Director Tim Swiggum reported the Farm Technology Days Committee had their initial meeting with the Dan Bakke family and presented them with the contract that needs to be signed should they be chosen as the site for the 2022 Farm Technology Days. Tim offered a thank you to Ken Martine and Tom Swiggum for planting the Grownin’ Owen trees behind the post office and the library, but more work is yet to be done.
Tim is also working on letters going out to area business/organizations to come and be part of their Autumnfest. They would also like business to take part in the Scarecrow Contest. Finally, Tim stated that Owen will be the host of United Communities in November, the life size electric train has been ordered, none of the money used to pay for this train is taxpayer dollars and ‘Trunk or Treat’ is scheduled to take place on Main Street in front of the library before ‘Trick or Treating’ hours on Halloween.
