Owen City Council Hears Local Road Improvement Program

-The Owen City Council heard about a local road improvement program at their meeting last week.The council was informed of a new program the Wisconsin DOT was introducing. The significant advantage to this program is that is it 90% funded by state and 10% by city. The minimum project size is $250,000 and they can apply for up to three road improvement projects. The board also approved a resolution allowing the city to establish an account with the State of Wisconsin Local Government Investment Pool. The city is not able to pay off state loans until the end of the year so by depositing the bond proceeds with the LGIP, the city will be earning a higher rate of interest. The council also approved Express Disposal to be the official garbage service for the City of Owen beginning January 1st of next year. The fee per household for garbage and recycling will be $11.75 per household per month.
As they receive a recycling grant for a portion of the recycling costs, the amount charged per customer will be $10.75 per month. The council also approved the city’s annual Liability Insurance Premium as submitted at a cost of $17,983, a $1,339 reduction from last year. Finally, they approved Teamsters Local 662 to be the Bargaining Representatives for the employees of the City of Owen beginning January 1st of next year and they approved the August Treasurer’s Report with a noted change.
