VETERANS RELIEF PACKAGE UNVEILED

by Andrew BeckettWisconsin veterans would receive extra help with tuition and property tax relief, under a package of bills introduced in the state legislature.
A three-part veterans relief package is being introduced at the capitol that would provide a 100% property tax credit for fully disabled veterans 65 or older and also tuition waivers for all soldiers. Assembly Speaker John Gard (R-Peshtigo) says the tuition plans would give a full waiver to disabled vets and their families.
Maurice Jackson with the Department of Veterans' Affairs says a 50-percent tuition waiver would also be provided for vets attending classes within the U.W. system. The tax credit and tuition waivers would cost the state a few million-dollars each year. Senator Ron Brown (R-Eau Claire) says it's worth the price.
