Boys and Girls Club of Wisconsin Gearing Up for Another Year of Serving Youth

Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 -- 7:46 AM

(WRN) -The Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin are gearing up for another year of serving youth.

The head of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin says kids are kids are getting the help they need to thrive, thanks to donors and sponsors. State director Andrew Gussert says they get little in the way of direct state funding, but that they're advocating for more care for kids, both inside school and out.

"This is not a partisan issue. We encourage people to talk to their legislators and support after school programs. It's what makes a difference for these kids."

Gussert says outside of the public school system, the Clubs serve more kids in Wisconsin than anyone else.

"We have 159 sites across 57 cities. We serve over 143-thousand 800 kids."

Gussert says while many people associate the Clubs with Milwaukee, most of their enrollment comes from rural Wisconsin.

"We were just talking about Wausau, we also have Antigo, Reedsburg, Red Cliff. Our newest club just opened in Shawano."

The Clubs serve over 143-thousand kids in Wisconsin every year in everything from food programs to job training to mentoring.
