AREA STATE SENATOR WANTS TO ELIMINATE "MINIMUM MARKUP"
Tuesday, March 15th, 2005 -- 3:21 PM
Two Republican state lawmakers want to eliminate the state's minimum markup law. Senator Dave Zien (zeen) and Representative Jeff Wood says that'll give drivers a break at the gas pumps. Zien says current law requires gas wholesalers and retailers to mark up their prices by nine cents a gallon. The law was created 70 years ago to protect large companies from driving out their smaller competitors. Zien says the proposal is part of a larger effort to reduce gas prices. Another idea is to eliminate a three cent a gallon tax that helps pay for cleaning up underground storage tanks.Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
