(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Thursday that it is extending the deadline for dairy producers to enroll in the Dairy Margin Coverage program for the coming year.Producers now have until September 27 to sign-up for coverage, which is a one week extension of the original deadline of September 20. Authorized by the 2018 Farm Bill, the the program offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.
Nearly half of the producers who have signed up so far are taking advantage of the 25 percent premium discount by locking in for five years of margin protection coverage through the Farm Service Agency. For more information, visit farmers.gov DMC webpage or contact your local USDA service center.
