Granton Village Board Update

Friday, September 20th, 2019 -- 10:18 AM

The Granton Village Board discussed their garbage contract at their meeting on Tuesday.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, Express Disposal presented a Garbage and Recycling Contract to the City of Neillsville. Express advised the cost would be higher for Granton due to its size. The cost for a 5 year contract is $12.75 per resident per month. A 10 year contract would by $11.75 per month. Advanced Disposal quoted a 5 year contract for $12.05 per resident per month. Both companies include garbage and recycling carts, weekly garbage pick-up, and a 3% increase in cost per year. However, Express picks up recycling bi-weekly and Advanced picks up weekly. Advanced Disposal also offers a cheaper rate of $10.95 per month per resident if they do not use their carts and continue to use the recycling bins. The board previously voted in August to continue with Advanced Disposal as they are cheaper and the service has been good. The board will work with the United Communities group to determine if the group wants to go with carts or continue with bags as the entire group has to use the same pick-up structure.

The board also heard the Water Report. A new culvert was installed by Rogers Grocery, new tires were installed on the mower, the backhoe bucket was modified, an electric panel was installed at the park in preparation for electrical updates and there was a lot of prep and clean up for Fall Fest. Finally, the board heard the Sewer Report. There was discharging on pond 3, they ordered a new hydrant, they replaced the water shut off in front of Bangarts and they dug grave.

It was also stated the dump truck and plow are in bad shape. The hydraulic line and radiator are being repaired again and it may be time to start researching a replacement. They also ordered new pallet forks for the backhoe and ordered 700 feet of drain tile so they can begin drain tiling the ball park. The board discussed drain tiling options presented. Options included vertical or horizontal layouts, whether to include pea gravel and or drain socks.
