Neillsville City Council Approves Keeping City Streets Open to ATV/UTV Use

Thursday, September 12th, 2019 -- 12:41 PM

-The City of Neillsville’s road will remain open to ATV/UTV use after a trial review at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.

At their June 11th meeting, the Neillsville City Council approved opening all city roads for ATV/UTV use, with the exception of Highway 73 and Highway 10. However, it was passed on a trial basis and it was stated at the time that the city would review it at the beginning of September. Aside from a few speeding issues, the Neillsville Police Department, the Mayor and the Common Council had not received reports of any major issues, so the council approved keeping all roads open to ATV/UTV use. A new ordinance has been passed to reflect as much. Along with that, the council approved making some minor changes to an ordinance regarding snowmobiles in the city. This change would cover snowmobiles, ATV’s and UTV’s and they also made a change for those vehicles to follow the posted speed limit on all city streets.

That change doesn’t go into effect right away. The ordinance must be updated by the city attorney and then approved at the Common Council’s next meeting later this month before the change goes into effect. Until that time, ATV’s and UTV’s must follow the old posted speed limit signs. Along with those items, the council received a letter from the President of the Wisconsin ATV/UTV Association thanking them for allowing the trial to take place and asking them to continue to allow ATV and UTV use on all city streets. They also received and email and flyer from a resident who is working on starting an ATV/UTV riders club in the city.
