SPRING GENERAL BALLOT HEAVY ON REFERENDA
Wednesday, March 2nd, 2005 -- 2:10 PM
The April 5th general election is only about a month away. Looking at what?s coming up, one could call 2005 ?The Year of The Referendum?. There will be eight ? yes, eight ? different referenda questions in Clark County alone. Now, nobody will vote on all eight, but there are more referenda this spring than anyone can remember.
Everyone in the county will be voting on 4 of the referendum questions:
-A statewide question asking voters if the state should change the constitution to lengthen some county elected officials terms from 2 to 4 years
-A countywide advisory referendum asking: if the county should implement a half-percent county sales tax
-And countywide questions asking if the state ? not the county taxpayer ? should pay for the cost of the state mandated court system and human services in Clark County
Then, there are school spending referenda in the Greenwood, Marshfield and Spencer school districts as well as a referendum in the Town of Hendren asking Town residents if all their town roads should be open to year-round ATV travel.
There will also be school board and municipal races around the area, and a statewide contest for State Superintendent.
