Advice from ReadyWisconsin on September Preparedness Month

Tuesday, September 10th, 2019 -- 7:33 AM

(WRN) -September is "Preparedness Month" in Wisconsin.

"Be Prepared, Not Scared," is the advice from ReadyWisconsin. And that includes being financially prepared when the unexpected happens.

"Any disaster can take a tremendous financial toll on families. It's important to plan in advance for the possibility of what may happen, so that you have a reserve of cash available."

With many Wisconsin families living paycheck to paycheck, Andrew Beckett with Wisconsin Emergency Management says even a little bit set aside can make a difference.

"Whatever little bit you can save, it does build up over time, and it can be available to you when an emergency hits."

You can find planning and preparedness tips online at dma-dot-wi-dot-gov and it's a great time to review those plans, review those steps that you need to take in order to make sure that you family remains safe, and knows what to do so that they are not scared if a disaster were to strike.

"What we're encouraging people to do is be prepared, not scared."
