A Proposal for the Return of Cursive Writing in Schools

Saturday, September 7th, 2019 -- 7:28 AM

(WRN) -Cursive writing may soon be a required course in Wisconsin school districts.

At this point it's only a proposal being offered by state Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt and Senators Luther Olsen and LaTonya Johnson. It would require the Department of Public Instruction to blend cursive writing into its language arts requirements.

The draft legislation claims that cursive "trains the brain to integrate visual and tactile information and fine motor dexterity" in ways that printing and typing do not.
