Over 900 Americorps Volunteers Helping Across Wisconsin Next Year

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 -- 7:41 AM

(WRN) -More than 900 Americorps volunteers will be helping out across Wisconsin next year in partnership with non-profits and other groups.

More than 900 Americorps volunteers will be helping out across Wisconsin next year in partnership with non-profits and other groups. Jeanne Duffy with Serve Wisconsin says one of their strongest partnerships is with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin.

"We also have many members who grew up in the Boys and Girls Clubs and remember their Americorps members who provided after school care, and after they graduate from college they'd like to give a year of service."

Duffy with Serve Wisconsin says nine hundred Americorps volunteers will be assisting non-profits, schools and clinics across Wisconsin next year.

"People need help in school, people need housing, people need social services. This gives young people a chance to serve their community, and hopefully this sets them up for a lifetime of service of giving back to our communities in our state."

Duffy says that while people often think of the Boys and Girls Club when it comes to Americorps, there's so many other organizations that get help.

"We have members who are tutoring elementary school children. They're working in clinics to make sure our vulnerable populations have access to the health care they need."

This is the 25th anniversary of the organization and since 1994 over 26-thousand volunteers have spent a year in service to the community in Wisconsin.
