-A Spencer woman facing charges for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy multiple times was found not competent in Marathon County Court on Thursday.According to court records, Linda Habhegger, said she would watch the boy from time to time and even considered herself a mother or aunt figure to the boy. Habhegger, who said she was sexually abused as a child, admitted to authorities she had sex with the boy multiple times at her home between July and September. She said she told the boy he wouldn’t get into trouble. She also told authorities that she didn’t think she did anything wrong. Habhegger had been charged with three counts of second degree sexual assault of a child. During a recent court appearance, her competency was brought up by her lawyer.
During the competency hearing on Thursday, the judge found Habhegger was not competent for the court proceedings to continue, for now. The judge felt that Habhegger could become competent within a year with proper treatment and counseling. The judge set a hearing date for August 24th of 2020 and progress will be filed 9 months, 6 months, 3 months and 1 month before the hearing. If the court proceedings do resume and continue normally, and she’s convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount, she could face up to 120 years in prison.
