FCC Approves $163 Million for Rural Broadband Aid

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The Federal Communications Commission has approved $163 million for rural broadband aid to Wisconsin communities over the next 10 years to service 21,000 homes and businesses.The funding is part of a nationwide effort to increase rural Internet access over the coming decade. According to the agency, about a fifth of Wisconsin residents have limited or no access to high-speed Internet. The FCC says it hopes to bring broadband to more than 21,000 new locations by 2029. In western Wisconsin, Tri-County Communications Cooperative will receive more than $32 million, while Rural Communications Holding will get over $30 million.
Other recipients include Baldwin Telecom and the Bloomer Telephone Company, which will receive $10 million and $9 million, respectively, to offer more high-speed access to its rural customers.
