Clark County Social Services' Transportation Program in Need of Volunteers

Monday, August 26th, 2019 -- 12:45 PM

-Clark County Social Services’ Transportation Program is need of volunteers.

Tiffanee Tesmer explained that Clark County has several different transportation options for residents to use. “The Clark County Taxi is available to all Clark County residents and the citizens of Stanley and they’ll take you anywhere within Clark County’s boarders and the City of Stanley,” she said. The taxi is available Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. The cost for a one way fare is $5 for adults, $3 for those 60 and older, $3 for the disabled, $3 for children under 18 with the 1st child under 5 free and under 5 does need an attendant, $5 for parcel delivery and $2 for any additional stops. The taxi will take you to any kind of appointment, visiting, groceries, etc., as long as it’s in Clark County.

Tiffanee continued, “The Neillsville Taxi will take you to any kind of appointment as long as it’s within Neillsville or 5 miles around the City of Neillsville.” They are available from 6am-10pm Monday-Friday, 7am-10pm on Saturday and 7am-6pm on Sunday. She also mentioned Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Clark County. They provide transportation for those 60 and older for various appointments. Tiffanee continued, “For specialized transportation, there are Abby Vans and Comfort Carriers.” The Clark County Aging and Disability Resource Center also have vans they use for meal deliveries and groceries. Tiffanee also said, “If you’re on Medicaid, you have the option to use MTM for transportation to your medical appointments.”

During our interview, Tiffanee focused on Clark County Social Services’ Transportation Program. “We provide medical transportation for persons 60 and older, persons with disabilities and other approved individuals,” she said. That service is provided by volunteers who use their own personal vehicles and, as long as the driver is willing, they’ll take the riders all over. Social Services is in need of volunteers for the program. “Just call Social Services and I’ll talk with them about the program and we’ll follow up with the application process. It’s really quick and simple. This is volunteer, so it’s on the volunteers schedule; whatever works best for them.” Tiffanee continued, “We do have more of a need on the northern end of the county and, even though it is volunteer, there is a small mileage reimbursement.”

Finally, Tiffanee ended our interview by stating, “This program is open to anyone, as long as they meet the necessary criteria, whether it be the stay at home parent or the retired person looking to stay busy. And we can really use the volunteers, because sometimes, our service is the only way people can get to their appointments. A lot of times, the drivers find they get just as much out of volunteering as the riders do.” If you’re interested in volunteering you can contact Tiffanee at 715-743-5289 or [email protected].
