(WDLB) -The Central Wisconsin State Fair in Marshfield has wrapped up for another year. The six-day fair came to a close yesterday. The annual demolition derby was the main attraction on the final day. The second annual All-Star Monster Truck Show highlighted Saturday's events. And a group called Marshfield Monarchs released three dozen Monarch butterflies, as part of their day being highlighted in the "Wonders of Wisconsin" tent. Jim and Melissa Gwiazda started Marshfield Monarchs in 2015, in an effort to save a dwindling monarch butterfly population. Melissa says the family is busy just about every night, either hunting for caterpillars or caterpillar eggs or releasing butterflies at Wildwood Park.
Melissa says the family spends at least three hours every night gathering eggs and fresh milkweed, releasing butterflies that are hatching daily, and cleaning tanks. Jim says this is his family's way of giving back. Marshfield Monarchs has a Facebook page, which features instructional videos on how you can save the monarchs on your own. Look for the family's Facebook page under Marshfield Monarchs: The Next Generation.
