(AP) -Special interest groups favoring Democrats raised five times as much as their Republican counterparts from donors in Wisconsin over the first six months of the year. That’s according to a new analysis Friday by the government watchdog group the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. It found that so-called 527 groups supporting Democrats raised nearly $2.7 million compared with about $498,000 that went to Republican-leaning groups. The special interest groups raise and spend unlimited amounts of money to influence elections through television ads, mailers, robocalls and other means.
The Greater Wisconsin Political Fund, which backs liberal candidates, received the most at $1.3 million. The second highest from the Democratic Governors Association, which raised more than $570,000 over the first half of the year.
