NEILLSVILLE/GRANTON FFA CHAPTERS STRONG

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005 -- 2:01 PM

This area has some of the most active FFA chapters in the state, and two presidents from local FFA chapters joined us on our Viewpoint program this morning in honor of National FFA Week.

Courtney Goetz and Jodi Kauth, presidents of the Neillsville and Granton FFAs respectively, talked about the impact the organization has had on their lives.

There are over a half-million members of the organization around the country. Locally, both Neillsville?s and Granton?s chapters have nearly one hundred members. In fact, nearly 90-percent of Granton?s student body is in the FFA.

Goetz says the Neillsville chapter will be celebrating 75 years of excellence at a banquet in March. She said they've had a very active year.

She says the FFA has helped improved her leadership ability.

"It's taught me to stand up for myself and be a better leader," Goetz said, "It's helped me bring kids together and work together."

Last year, we were joined by Jackie Mundt of Pittsville. At that time, she was a state officer. In the fall, she was named the president of the National FFA organization. Kauth said that?s been inspiring.

"It's so close to home. We've had Jackie speak at our banquets. We all know her," Kauth said, "It's just amazing. To see her step up and take that leadership role."

Kauth will be attending UW-River Falls next year and will have an agriculture-based major.

Both Goetz and Kauth thanked their FFA Alumni organizations and advisors. Amy Gerhardt in Neillsville and Cheryl Steinbach in Granton.
