Wisconsin Leads the Nation in Farm Bankruptcies

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Low commodity prices continue impact the bottom line for Wisconsin farm operations.That's according to a new report by Wells-Fargo, which reported this week that Wisconsin has led the nation in farm bankruptcies during the past year. The financial institution says there were 45 farms that filed for Chapter 12 between July 2018 and June 2019. Most of those were dairy operations. Kansas was the next closest state with 39 filings.
Trade wars are partly to blame for the trend, as U.S. dairy exports were off by eight percent during that time.
