Marshfield Testing One-Way Traffic at City's Library and Community Center

Friday, August 23rd, 2019 -- 9:40 AM

(Hub City Times) -Marshfield’s Board of Public Works has approved a trial run of one-way traffic with angled parking in the 200 block of East Second Street between Maple and Cedar, near the city’s downtown.

Marshfield City Engineer Tom Turchi says it’s a test to see if the plan alleviates parking congestion at the city’s library and community center. “Options presented required East Second Street between Maple Avenue and Cedar Avenue being converted from a two-way street to a one-way street, changing the parallel parking to angled parking on this street,” he said. Turchi said there won’t be any real cost to the temporary test run. “What we’d be looking at is doing a simulation where we can create the one-way street and angled parking using traffic cones, signage, temporary pavement-marking tape and create a test case where we can gain some valuable public input,” he added.

The public will also get to weigh in on the change through a survey. “With the questionnaire, what we’ll do is we’ll talk about the additional parking and how they feel about having the additional parking and it being located on the north side, as well as the one-way street and what their use of that neighborhood or that street is,” Turchi explained. That one-way traffic and angled-parking should add up to nine additional parking spaces on East Second Street, and the trial run is expected to last through the fall.
