-The Granton Village Board signed and updated documents for the Wisconsin Debt Collection at their meeting last week.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board reviewed the updated TRIP, or Tax Refund Intercept Program, and the SDC, or State Debt Collection contracts. These are the collection programs in place for WI Municipalities to collect debt owed that is more than 90 days past due. There is no fee to the municipalities as all fees are assigned to the debtor. The board discussed turning over accounts to collections. A resident owes the village $304.95 for court fees involving a truancy case. This debt is well over 90 days old and no payments have been made. The required letter advising her the bill would be turned over to collections was already sent out and more than 30 days have passed. The board discussed the collection fees that would be attached to her bill once this debt is turned over. The board decided to send out a payment plan of $25 per month, due on the 15th of each month until paid in full, as one last attempt to collect on this bill, and keep her from being turned over to collections.
If she fails to pay timely each month the board will have no choice but to turn the bill over. Finally, the board heard the Water Report. Chlorine and Bac T samples were taken, they completed the Iron and VOC tests in Plover and waiting results, curb stops were repaired at Opelt’s, Dolle’s, and McConkey’s, there was storm clean up all month, they dug grave, they marked graves for stone placement, they placed solar light on the flag in the park, and planted the donated Red Maple Tree in memory of Jeanette Steiner.
